2/11/93.1
Herewith, dear Dr. Dyer, I send you a specimen of Verticordia Roei,2 which you may not have as a distinct sp. in the Kew Herbarium. Bentham referred it to V. insignis, with which it may have been mixed in the Vienne Herbarium, but V Roei belongs to the inland-flowing river-system, whereas V. insignis pertains to the water-systems of the coastal side of the ranges. My huge collections allow now to elaborate such critical concerns. V. compta is = V. insignis.
I am proceeding fairly with the suppl. vol.,3 but it is a task requiring much research, to fix the geographic limits of all the species For Mr Bailey I feel much.4 I advised him to obtain through the influence of his Brisbane friends a small pension or a recompensation, and to make like Drummond saleable collections, the rarer QL.5 pl. being in few European collections, the Government doubtless allowing him a free pass on the railways. I advised him also6 to give lectures under remuneration at QL (Brisbane) educational establishments. He applied for Mr Moore's position, but he is nearly as old, and the Goverm has not the slightest wish to remove Mr Moore from his creation, and he is very popular in Sydney.7 The Q L Government kept Baileys son8 in the herbarium.
With regardful rememberance your
Ferd von Mueller
