[A deputation, consisting of Dr Whitcombe and Messrs C. Taylor (vice-president), G. Smith (vice-president), K Taylor, and T. Mitchell, was last night appointed by the Fish Protection Society and Anglers’ Club to wait on the City Council and request that immediate steps be taken to eradicate the reeds in Lake Wendouree.1 In connection with the same matter, Dr Whitcombe suggested that the society should forward samples of the various kinds of weeds which grow in the lake to Baron von Mueller, with a request that he should give the names of them, and also suggest means of eradication. The idea was regarded as a good one, and the suggestion was unanimously adopted.]
The deputation was joined by representatives of the rowing club to meet the Ballarat City Council on 20 November where the Council resolved that 'action be at once taken to have the rushes cut' ('weeds in lake wendouree', Ballarat star, 21 November 1893 p. [4]).
