From Ferdinand von Mueller to Jacob Agardh   15 Dec 1893

15/12/93.

It was a great joy, highly esteemed Professor, to receive your letter1 by last month's mail, and since you write as previously with a strong hand, my fear — you might be sick — was probably unfounded. I had not heard from you for a long time and also thought that the last consignments perhaps had not arrived.

Miss Hussey, a splendid young lady who lives permanently at one of the good places for algae, can still discover much. I have immediately communicated to her the algal names (except those as I have already given myself of common species), as coming from you.2 I am very pleased that you intend to honour Wilson by the genus Bracebridgea, but advise to publish it quickly even if only provisionally;3 because at home more and more of the botanists devote themselves to special algology and the number of algal collectors increases even in Australia more and more. Could Wilson be elected to the scientific society of Lund.

With best wishes for the New Year

Your Ferd von Mueller

Please offer my greetings to Count Wachtmeister.

I am naming Miss Hussey's land plants.4
