To Alexander Macdonald   23 December 1893

23/12/93

It was my intention, dear Mr Macdonald, to pay you personally a visit for conveying my felicitation at these festive days. But my cough is so severe that I cannot venture out unless on a hot day. Indeed I lost almost my voice, and must avoid speaking as much as possible. So, excuse me when the little Christmas gift for your bright young Lady is not brought by my self. Perhaps you may have a spare-hour during the holidays to come over to my dwelling, as I like to consult with you on several geographic subjects. Kindly give me a description or sketch of your present abode.

With best wishes for the new year

to all of you

Ferd von Mueller.
