From Ferdinand von Mueller to Charles Gray   [Jan 1894]

[With regard to tree-planting, the Mayor stated that he had written to Baron von Mueller1 who advised the Council to try Martam2 grass and recommended the procuring of his book on trees.3]

See C. Gray to M, January 1894 (in this edition as 94-01-00j).

Typesetters error for Marram?

Presumably B91.09.01, the most recent edition of Select plants; M wrote no monograph on trees suitable for cultivation.

Letter not found. The text given here is from the report of the Geraldton Municipal Council meeting on 5 February 1894 (Geraldton advertiser, 7 February 1894, p. 3). It is dated to January as the latest that it could have been written to be read at this meeting of the council. The report continued: 'On the proposition of Cr. Jones seconded by Cr. Rowe it was resolved to procure 6 bags of Marram grass from Port Fairy. The MAYOR recommended the procuring of a few trees and the distributing of them among persons willing to plant them in the streets and attend to them. He would be willing to give a prize of two guineas for the best grown trees.'
