From Ferdinand von Mueller to Casimir de Candolle   1 Mar 1894

1/3/94.

By last weeks mail, honored Sir, I sent you 2 small packages of Polynesian Meliaceae.1 By this weeks mail I send seven small packages of Papuan Meliaceae.2 These sendings exhaust my supply.3 The numbers are only for your and my use, as I have sent to no one else these plants. Therefore the numbers should not be cited in your treatise. You will receive in toto nearly 100 specimens, but they may represent not half as many species. Will you kindly remember, that most of also these plants (Meliaceae) were collected on my sole instigation, that money was spent for them or donations were made in reciprocity, involving monetary outlay, quite irrespective of much correspondence of mine and other exertions here. In case of unnumbered specimens, nothing has been kept here, so that of these unnumbered specimens I would like to have a little back after your examination, so that the species may be represented in the great Governm. Collection ("Herbier") here. I regret that in many instances the material is so very imperfect.

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller
