[Baron Ferdinand Von Mueller, Government Botanist for the colony of Victoria, has communicated with Mr. R. W. Richards, the city surveyor, asking for some notes on the experiences of Sydney relative to the applicability of various kinds of timber for street paving. The Baron is aware that the woods of some of the eucalyptus family have been used in Sydney, and he seeks to know their relative merit as regards durability and price. Also any information respecting other kinds of wood that may be on trial in this city. To this letter the city surveyor replied,1 forwarding a copy of his yearly report for 1893. The Baron, in acknowledging receipt of this report,2 said it was so valuable and full that he would forward it to the Society of Arts, and asked for another copy to place in his official library.3]
