Since Prof. Baillon in 1858 his "Etude de la famille des Euphorbiacées",1 dear Commandeur Archer, I have been in communications, and thus he had from me specimens of all my euphorbiaceous plants, on which in the 60 years of this Century he offered observations in his "Adansonia"2 Thus also he referred to Coelebogyne ilicifolia3 as in one instance having anthers concealed among female flowers. They might easily be missed in inspection. I think the only specimen was sacrificed in the dissection. His remarks in the Adansonia I can show you some day, when you come here. On specimens cultivated by me I saw no stamens, yet they produced embryonate seeds, which however did not germinate.
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller
Coelebogyne ilicifolia
