The last weekly mail, dear Dr Bride, brought me a letter from the celebrated Linguist, Prof. Dr Fr. Mueller of Vienne,1 who for his further studies of the Polynesian languages is eager to obtain a copy of the important vol. II of the "South-Sea-Languages," published in 1891 at the expenses of the public Library, Museums, and Natural Arts-Gallery of Victoria.2 If you could spare an impression of this volume, and would forward it to that distinguished Professor, Vienna, III Marxer Gasse, 24A, I should be much beholden to you. He had linguistic works now and then from me since the last 30 years. If you can kindly manage this little affair, please let me know, so that I can answer Prof Mueller's letter.3

I beg to send for the trustees' acceptance some few impressions of my index of Linn. spec. plant. first edit.4 published at my private expense as lively discussions have been going on for the last few years among Naturalists, as regards the legitimate starting points for genera in phytography and zoography. De Candolle and nearly all other phytographers used only the second edition, which makes a difference of 9 years. So now, this index of mine has come much into demand, on account of the great rarity of the edition of 1753.
This index would also be acceptable as an additional in your distributions.
