To William Thiselton-Dyer   23 July 1894

23/7/94.1

By this weeks mail, dear Dr Dyer, I send you what must be considered a great prize a comparatively large lot of seeds (fruits) of Atriplex vesicarium, one of the very best of the Central Australian Saltbushes for sheep-pastures.2 This particular species I have seldom sent out before and never in quantity. Perhaps you like to distribute these when you happen to supply to different parts of the world seeds of utilitarian plants. Largely through my action during many years Atriplex nummularium and A. halimoides are now widely naturalized over the globe

Two days ago I was glad to meet not only Mr Brian Hooker but also his Lady and the three most beautiful and bright children. Mrs Hooker is a stately Lady of noble bearing and almost antique features and very affable. Your brother in law has in these unlucky times been exceptionally fortunate in his talent being secured for the management one of the celebrated Goldmines at Coolgardie in W.A.3 So he has a most promising future before him.

Kindly remember me to Sir Joseph.

With regardful remembrance your

Ferd. von Mueller
