The specimens of plants just received from you, dear Mr Daley, are:
|
1, |
Veronica perfoliata, RBrown the variety with disconnected leaves |
|
2, |
Diuris maculata, Smith. |
|
3, |
Styphelia urceolata F.v.M. of this I would like later some ripe seeds for sowing |
|
4, |
Dodonaea viscosa Linné. |
I should think, that if you have plants obtained both in a flowering and fruiting state, no difficulty could arise in most cases to you in finding out the names from my "Key to the system of Victorian plants"1 largely illustrated by woodcuts. This inexpensive work is purchasable at the Gov. Printing Office.
Are you in a good position, to collect also a little of each sort of floating plants in the Loddon and Avoca and the adjoining lagoons.
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
I am quite willing to name plants for you also henceforth.
Diuris maculata
Dodonaea viscosa
Styphelia urceolata
Veronica perfoliata
B86.04.05, B88.11.02.
The file contains several fragments of undated letters, also giving plant names. These have been transcribed as separate letters, and unless there is other information suggesting a different date, dated September 1894, because their order, spread over the following months, is unknown. Daley used the same record numbers for specimens within and between years, and the record number information in AVH cannot be used to assign probable dates.
