From Ferdinand von Mueller to Herbert Williamson   20 Sep 1894

20/9/94

Indeed, dear Mr Williamson, I shall be glad, if you will put for me flowering and fruiting specimens of Leeuwenhoekia1 Sonderi into strong spirits, as I like to examine closely its structure in comparison with the frequent L. dubia.2

May I advise, not to take off too many flowers of your Grevillea3 through your friend, so that the chances of getting fruits may be increased. The heaths on Curdie-River4 have never yet been exhaustively searched for plants. I was only once there. Should you find resin on the Grass-trees, would you kindly secure some for me?

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller

Grevillea

Leeuwenhoekia dubia

Leeuwenhoekia Sonderi

Leeuvenhookia, or Leewenhoekia, both spellings that M used in publications (B58.01.01, p. 18, and B83.03.04, p. 86 in which he gave Levenhookia as an alternate spelling).

Williamson supplied the specimens requested; see M to H. Williamson, 27 November 1894.

M had requested fruit of this Grevillea in M to H. Williamson, October 1893 (in this edition as 93-10-00) and noted 'fruit not yet obtained' when he published it as G. williamsoni in B93.12.02, p. 129.
