From Ferdinand von Mueller to the Leader   5 Oct 1894

[Name of Plant.—T. L.— Your pretty little specimen from the Palmer River is the Melaleuca linarifolia of Sir James Smith. According to Baron Von Mueller1 it has a rather wide range along the rivers, chiefly near the coast of New South Wales and Queensland. The Baron gathered it on the Gilbert River in 1856. In the specimen you sent from north Queensland the bundles of stamens are less elongated than usual, but the flowers are only opening. In luxuriant specimens the long staminal bundles give the flowers a plumose appearance.]

Melaleuca linarifolia

No published account by M of the distribution of the species has been found; it is assumed that this information was provided by M and paraphrased by the editor.
