From Ferdinand von Mueller to Alphonse Milne-Edwards   1 Jan 1895

Newyears day

1895.

By the "Australien", dear Prof. Milne Edwards, I send you a case with zoologic and mineralogic specimens under the care of Mons Aillaud, one of the principal Officers of that Ship.1 I forward also for Prof Van Tieghem a stem of Nuytsia floribunda, about 5' long and 7" in diameter2

It was very pleasing to me that the minerals, sent by the former voyage of the Australien contained novelties for the Gallery of your grand Museum, and the present sending will also bring rarities. I will get more specimens together by the end of April for the "Australien".

Wishing you and all the Professors of the Museum a happy new year, I remain regardfully your

Ferd von Mueller

Nuytsia floribunda

See also M to A. Milne-Edwards, 4 January 1895, which makes some corrections to the list of specimens evidently included with this letter; the list has not been found.

Van Tieghem was a plant anatomist, who in Tieghem (1893) published a major paper on the structure of N. floribunda. See also M to A. Milne-Edwards, 12 March 1894; M to A. Lacroix, 30 November 1895; and M to A. Milne-Edwards, 1 December 1895 (in this edition as 95-12-01b).
