To William Thiselton-Dyer1    8 January 1895

8/1/95

You might like dear Dr Dyer, to put this sample of Wild-Rice into your Museum among the Australian Exhibits.2 I was the first to show its existence in Australia in 1855 & 1856 (see Hooker’s Journal),3 as I found it then around pools far in the interior of Arnhem's Land,4 but saw it nowhere near the coast.

Had just a New years Greeting from Mrs Brian Hooker,5 who — I now learn — has taken up her abode at King George's Sound,6 where the clime is remarkably pleasant.

With friendship

your

Ferd von Mueller
