The text given here is from a report of the meeting of the Scientific Committee of the Royal Horticultural Society held on 26 March 1895, in Journal of the Royal Horticultural Society of London, n.s,, vol. 19 (1895-6), p. xxii). It is dated to February 1893 as the latest likely date that it could have been sent to be considered at that meeting. The same report appears in Gardeners’ chronicle, 6 April 1895, p. 434.
