From Ferdinand von Mueller to Maffra Shire Council   [Apr 1895]1

[Baron Von Mueller, stating in reference to the weed mentioned by Constable Drummond that it was nightshade (solanum ignrum)2. The weed is of European origin, but has been naturalised in Australia since the beginning of the century. The weed is only of short individual duration, and no great difficulty exists in getting rid of it, as it is easily pulled or hoed out of soft ground. It should be then burnt, as the berries otherwise provide a new growth. Cattle which have eaten the weed can be saved by the quick administration of stimulants, strong coffee being one of the most suitable.]
