Some seeds, well matured, would at any convenient time for you to gather be acceptable.
371. Gahnia3
I presume, that this is a tall species. The fruit is not ripe; when mature it drops out easily.
263. Luzula campestris, De Candolle4
A very variable plant
402. Acaena ovina, Cunningham
401. Zygophyllum Billardieri De Candolle5
400. Kennedya monophylla Ventenat
399. Euphorbia helioscopia Linnë
(Immigrated). Poisonous.
397. Silene (not a native)6
Could you some time conveniently spread out some few flowers by themselves? Silene is a genus with very numerous species. It would require also ripe fruits to name any species with certainty.7
398. Opercularia varia, J. Hooker
348. Casuarina paludosa, Sieber
404. Sonchus oleraceus, Linnë
Kunzea pomulifera8
405. Cotula coronopifolia L.
288. Oxalis9
This seems to be a South African species, which may have been the inmate of a Garden
381. Sisymbrium
Name later for the species
403. Cymbonotus Lawsonianus Gaudichaud10
Silene
Under what circumstances does it occur?
298. Sagina procumbens, Linnë11
With kind regards
Ferd. von Mueller.

Number not used in Hussey collection at MEL.
Number not used in Hussey collection at MEL.
Number used twice in Hussey collection at MEL, both for Luzula meridionalis, each collected 1895, L. campestris being a synonym in some senses of L. campestris but given as a 'name of uncertain application'.
Number not used in Hussey collection at MEL.
Number used twice in Hussey collection at MEL, for Silene gallica and S. nocturna, each dated to 1895.
'397 … with certainty' published in Kraehenbuehl (1981a), p. 393.
'omitted from Dr. Brummitt's list' was probably inserted before 'Kunzea pomulifera' and not noted as being in another hand when the list was transcribed. The insertion may have been made by Hussey who was in contact with a 'Dr. Brummitt' ('The late Miss J. L. Hussey', South Australian register (Adelaide), 20 March 1899, p. 3). This was probably Robert Brummitt (1851-1927), medical practitioner at Burra in mid-north of SA until 1900, a botanical collector (George (2009)), and active in the Burra Agricultural Society and Horticultural Bureau (Burra record, 4 April 1900, p. 3). No list by Brummitt has been found. If his list was of species in the Burra area, the omission of K. pomulifera is not surprising: AVH (accessed 2 November 2024) does not show any SA collection so far north.
Number used twice in Hussey collection at MEL, for Oxalis pes-caprae, undated (see M to J. Hussey, 1893 (In this edition as 93-00-00k), and the unrelated Chrysocephalum apiculatum dated 1894.
Number not used in Hussey collection at MEL.
Specimen with this number in Hussey collection at MEL is undated, for Sagina maritima, of which S. procumbens is not a synonym.
The next mention of a Styphelia is in M to J. Hussey, October 1895 (in this edition as 95-10-00f), where two species are listed. One, numbered 449, is identified as S. ovalifolia, but at MEL that undated number is used for an alga. The other, no. 486, is listed as Styphelia richea, a synonym of Leucopogon parviflorus, the name used in MEL. M to J. Hussey, July 1896 (in this edition as 96-07-00f) probably refers to the Styphelia species that had been puzzling him, listed four times at MEL as number 232 under S. exarrhena (and listed there and in two other determination sheets under that number (M to J. Hussey, May 1895 (in this edition as 94-05-00b); M to J. Hussey, May 1896 (in this edition as 96-05-00j)).
Item is a typescript, transcriber unknown, prepared ca. 1977 from an original MS in the State Library of South Australia, Adelaide.
Not all numbers used here are given for the Hussey collection at MEL, some numbers are used twice, and not all the specimens are dated. For dated specimens at MEL, the names used by M match or are synonyms, at least to genus, of the names given in AVH (accessed 4 August 2024; synonyms from APC accessed 26 August 2024). The main sequence of numbers here follows on from M to J. Hussey, May 1895 (in this edition as 95-05-00f), and is followed by M to J. Hussey, July 1895 (in this edition as 95-07-00f). It is therefore dated as June 1895 as the most probable date it was written.
