Mit dieser Wochen-Post sende ich Ihnen, lieber Herr Prof. Hilgard frische Samen australischer Pflanzen, welche für den dortigen Universitäts Garten Ihnen willkommen sein mögen, zumal da australische Pflanzen im S. W. von N. Amer. ja ohne Schutz gezogen werden können, und bei Vorlesungen der Studenten belehrend sind.

Wenn Sie mir Samen Californischer Garten Blumen oder der besten einheimischen Weide Gräser u amerikanische Futter-Pflanzen her senden wollen, so werde ich mich Ihnen verpfichtet fühlen. Der Vertreter von Prof Greene könnte ja eng gepackt trocken Ex. californischer Seltenheiten senden, da ja die Post Päckchen bis zu 1/2 lb nimmt. Ich werde in ahnlicher Weise den Austausch, der ja bequem u billig ist, aufrecht erhalten.

De neunte wieder erweiterte Ausgabe der "Select plants" geht durch den Druck jetzt, so dass ich Ihnen solche nach wenigen Monaten werde senden können.

By this week's mail I am sending you, dear Professor Hilgard, fresh seeds of Australian plants that may be welcome to you for the University garden there, especially since Australian plants can be grown in the southwest of North America without protection and are instructive to the students in lectures.

If you want to send me seeds of Californian garden flowers or the best indigenous pasture grasses and American fodder plants, I shall feel obliged to you. The representative of Professor Greene could indeed send tightly packed dry specimens of Californian rarities, since the post takes small packets up to 1/2 lb. In similar manner I shall keep up the exchange, which is certainly convenient and cheap.
