From Ferdinand von Mueller to Thomas Cheeseman   8 Aug 1895

8/8/95

Allow me to ask, dear Mr Cheeseman, whether you have handy there the Alectryon excelsum1, and if so will you kindly send me some fruits, when they are ripe, as I would wish to examine carefully the embryo

Should you at any time sort among the Coprosmas, kindly put authentic specimens of rarer kinds aside for the great Collection of dried plants here, commenced by me in 1839 and now containing about a million sheets! I always sought a special pride by enriching it with original specimens of authors My own huge collections I incorporated as a free gift, though they cost me thousands of £ before I took office in 1853 and also thousands of £. privately afterwards.

Can I send you seeds of rare Eucalypts from here or anything else? I could use seeds of your rarer Pittosporums

Very regardfully your

Ferd von Mueller

Best compliments to Mr Petrie, when you meet this excellent man.
