[Specimen of Grass.— Selector, Narbethong.2— The tall climbing grass with entangled branches received is the Ehrhorta jancea.3 It is indigenous only to Tasmania, Victoria and the southern part of New South Wales, and there again restricted to mountainous densely scrubby regions, rendering penetrating the jungle very difficult by binding together the bushes of the underwood in forests. Baron Von Mueller informs us that the exploring parties with which he travelled in the early days were glad to cut this grass, though so tough, for the horses, as in the dense scrubs of ranges where this Ehrhorta occurs hardly any other grasses or any other forage grew.]
