From Ferdinand von Mueller to Clara Ryan   2 Feb 1896

2/2/96.

As the cool season will soon come on again, dear Madam, I would like very much, that you with the aid of neighbouring befriended Ladies get for me collected all sorts of the small spring-herbs and minute plants such as in the hot season disappear. If the season turnes out rainy a great variety can be gathered doubtless on your plains They need only be put indiscriminately into bag-envelopes like those sent as samples herewith. Such an envelope will take from a dozen to half a hundred kinds of very small plants and they dry readily if the envelopes are put for some few days into the sun-warmth. Among such very small land-plants novelties are sure to occur. I need hardly repeat, after your reiterate kind sending of seaweeds (Algs) that I never can [have] too many from your locality The print, sent herewith may interest your respected husband1

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller.

If Mr Ryan will kindly telegraph,2 I could send a supply of bag-envelopes if needed.

Enclosure not found.

The Ryans were living at the telegraph station at Eucla, WA.
