To Alexander Macdonald   1 April 1896

1/4/96.

This afternoon, dear Mr Macdonald, I received the postcard, regarding the Meeting to be held by the Subcommittee concerning the spoken of Easter Excursion. I have searched everywhere for Mr Manifold's letter,1 and believe that I returned it to you. Should be very sorry, if this put the Sub Committee in inconvenience. You will remember that Mr Manifold wrote, that he would be absent, but gave the name of families, whom we might invite to his Lake. Should the Sub Committee still think an excursion desirable, I will see whether I can muster strength for it, though I feel very poorly. Let me kindly know the results of the Sub-committees consultation.

Always regardfully your

Ferd von Mueller

Had a letter from Sir Hercules Robinson.2 The Cape Ministry says that too many other obligations devolve at present on the colony, that entering on Antarctic schemes would at present be inopportune.

The pastoralist William Thomson Manifold, whose property near Camperdown, Vic, included Lake Purrumbete.
Letter not found but was in answer to M to H. Robinson, 3 December 1895 (in this edition as 95-12-03a).
