From Ferdinand von Mueller to the Leader   [May 1896]

[Prairie Grass, &c.— Subscriber, Beaconsfield.1 Specimen No. 1 is the British Ribherd,2 sometimes, but incorrectly, called Ribgrass. This grass is a perennial, and usually, Baron von Mueller states, gets naturalised in tracts of country not too hot and too dry. 2. This narrow leaved variety of what is here called Prairie grass is widely appreciated as one of our best perennial pasture and hay grasses. 3. This specimen has shed its grains, consequently nothing definite can be said about it.]
