To Edward Holmes   23 July 1896

23/7/1896

This day, dear Mr Holmes, I have despatched to you a small lot of Algs from Flinders-Island,1 which for the sake of locality may interest you They are only in a crude state and if such are acceptable to you, I can send them from several places of the Australian Coasts. Since the retrenchments” when the financial difficulties began in nearly all these colonies 4 years ago I have had no means for such engagements as resoaking [or] spreading out Algs crisply dried to any great extent. But with your great algic knowledge and larger means for comparisons there you would be easily able to ascertain the names In such cases you might give a set of the surplus to Prof Percival2 Wright on my behalf, as I have here in the great Main-Collection only a typic set.

Very regardfully your

Ferd von Mueller
