Mit dem am morgenden Tage von hier nach London abgehenden Dampschiffe sende ich an Herrn Professor Lindley, (21, Regent Street) ein Packet mit Pflanzen, dem ein zweites Packet für Sie beigefügt ist. Wollen Sie Herrn Lindley gefälligst auffördern das für Sie bestimmte auf die Ihnen bequemste Weise Ihnen gekommen zu lassen. Sie müssen entschuldigen, dass ich mein Versprechen nicht früher erfüllte, ich war aber, nachdem die Schifffahrt wieder begonnen fortwährend von Geschäften in Anspruch genommen. Sie empfangen in dem Packete sämmtliche von Dr Müller gesandte Leguminosen inclus. Acacia, um deren Bestimmung oder Revision ich Sie ersuche. Mit Ausnahme von einigen wenigen ist alles für Ihr Hebarium bestimmt, die unica sind bezeichnet. Aus der beiliegenden Bearbeitung der Compositae ersehen Sie, dass ich angefangen habe, unter der Bezeichnung "Plantae Müllerianae" eine vollständige Enumeratio dieser Pflanzen in der Linnaea herauszugeben, ich bin Ihnen sehr dankbar dass Sie mich dabei unterstützen willen, welches den Werth der Enumeratio nur vergrössen kann. Prof Lindley hat sämmtliche Orchidaceae erhalten, Prof Meisner, der in der vorigen Woche in Hamburg war, die Proteaceen, Thymeleen, & Polygoneen. Ich werde nicht ermangeln, Ihnen auch später die von Müller gesandten Leguminosae aus Australia felix gekommen zu lassen, so wie auch Pflanzen aus den anderen Familien, wenn ich die Sammlungen erst geordnet sind. Vorläufig möchte ich mit der Enumeratio bald fortschreiten, weil es ein besonderer Antrieb für Müller sein möchte. Einige der Ihnen gesandten Pflanzen sind nur in kleinen Exemplaren, ich habe aber keine besseren, Dr Müller hat bisweilen mit grossen Schwierigkeiten zu kämpfen gehabt und nicht immer gut auflegen können. Was aber von diesen mangelhaften Exemplaren in der Folge in besseren Ex. geschickt werden wird, soll für Sie zurückgelegt werden. Müller hat zu viele neue Species gemacht, Sie brauchen sich nicht daran zu kehren sondern ändern Sie was Ihnen gut scheint. Bei den Compositen habe ich häufig die Autorität getheilt, welches mir nöthig schien, da ich die Beschreibungen entwerfen musste.

In einer früheren Sendung erhielten Sie noch folgende Leguminosae, wovon ich keine Exemplare mehr abgeben kann, Daviesia ruscifolia, mimosoides, umbellata. Platylob. macrocalyx florus Lotus australis Andr. Gompholob. uncinat., polymorph. Psoralea australasica, Pultenaea vestita (an pedunculat?) obcordata Andr, Bossiaea horizontalis, Viminaria denudata et Acacia retinodes Schl. – Wollen Sie diese gefälligst mit aufführen.

Ausser den Neuholl. Pflanzen erhalten Sie noch 50 Species[?] von Moritz als Nachtrag. Es ist lange nichts von Moritz gesandt worden, es soll aber nächstens eine Sendung in Hamburg ankommen.

Most worthy Sir!

I am sending a parcel of plants to Professor Lindley (21 Regent Street) by the steamer leaving for London from here tomorrow, which encloses a second parcel for you. Would you kindly ask Mr Lindley to have the one destined for you come to you in the manner most convenient to you. You must excuse that I have not fulfilled my promise earlier. After the navigation began again I was continually absorbed in business. In the parcel you will receive all the Leguminosae inclusive of Acacia sent by Dr Mueller for which I ask you for their determination or revision. With the exception of some few everything is destined for your herbarium. The unica are indicated. You will see from the enclosed working up of the Compositae¹ that I have begun to publish a complete ennumeration of these plants in Linnaea under the designation "Plantae Muellerianae". I am very grateful that you will support me in this, which can only increase the value of the enumeration. Professor Lindley has received all of the Orchidaceae, Professor Meisner, who was in Hamburg a week ago, the Proteaceae, Thymeleae and Polygoneae.² I shall also not fail to have the Leguminosae sent by Mueller from Australia felix³ later to come to you as well as plants from other families when the collections are put in order. For the time being I would like to proceed with the enumeration soon, because it might be a particular spur for Mueller. Some of the plants sent to you are only in small examples, but I have no better. At times Dr Mueller has to struggle with great difficulties and cannot always give good ones, however, whatever of these inadequate specimens will be sent in the sequel as better specimens, shall be laid aside for you. Mueller has made too many new species. You need not regard them, but change what seems good to you. With the Composites I have frequently divided the authority, which seemed necessary to me because I had to draft the descriptions.

In my previous consignment you received the following Leguminosae, of which I can hand over no more specimens. Daviesia rucifolia, mimosoides, umbellata. Platylobium macrocalyx, florus, Lotus australis Andr. Gompholobium uncinatum, polymorphum Psoralea australasica, Pultenaea vestita (to pedunculat?) obcordata Andr. Bossiaea horizontalis, Viminaria denudata and Acacia retinodes Schl. Would you kindly specify these.⁴

Besides the New Holland plants you will receive 50 more species[?] from Moritz as supplement. Nothing had been sent for a long time from Moritz, but a consignment is said to arrive soon in Hamburg.
