From Friedrich Franz II, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg, to the Medical Faculty, Universität Rostock   31 October 1857

 

Wir gestatten auf euern Antrag vom 28sten d. Mts hierdurch, dass der Doctor der Philosophie und Director des botanischen Gartens Ferdinand Müller in Melbourne in Australien, gebürtig aus Rostock, auf Grund seiner wissenschaftlichen Leistungen in der Botanik, in absentia zum Doctor der Medicin promovirt werde, und ermächtigen euch, den Professor Spitta, als zeitigen Decan der medicinischen Facultät, die gedachte Promotion in Unserm Namen vorzunehmen, indem Wir euch zugleich zu diesem Zwecke das officium procancellariatus hierdurch in Gnaden übertragen.

Schwerin am 31sten October 1857.

Following your application of the 28th inst.,1 We hereby grant permission that the degree of Doctor of Medicine be conferred in absentia, on account of his scientific achievements in botany, on the Doctor of Philosophy and Director of the botanic garden, Ferdinand Müller in Melbourne in Australia, born in Rostock, and we authorize you, Professor Spitta, as the current Dean of the Medical Faculty, to carry out the intended conferment in Our Name, and we graciously transfer to you at the same time for this purpose the power of Chancellor.
