Dr Ferdinand Mueller, Government Botanist, Melbourne, Victoria, a gentleman highly distinguished as a Traveller & Botanist, late Botanist to the Australian Exploring Expedition under Mr Gregory, & the author of numerous valuable papers on Australian Botany, being desirous of becoming a Fellow of the Linnean Society, we the undersigned do, of our knowledge of him or of his writing,1 recommend him as being eminently deserving of that honor.
