From Frederick McCoy to James Bruce   4 Feb 1862

Prof. McCoy presents his Compliments and thanks to Mr James Bruce for his promise of even half of his great Cranbourne Meteorite for the Nat. Mus.1 of Victoria. Pr McC. has since the rect of Mr Bruce's letter been in expectation that Mr Daintree wd fulfil his promise of calling on Mr Bruce and explaining to him the claims of the N. M. of V. to his kind consideration in the matter and also to explain that Mr Abel2 had just taken the other great meteorite from the same locality for sale to the British Musuem, so that the Brit. Mus. wd have probably a superfluity and the Nat Mus of the Colony have no representative of a great local natural curiosity. As however Mr Daintree has not yet fulfilled his promise Pr McC. must only remain satisfied with the promise of the half made by Mr Bruce and when the Estimates are sufficiently forward will complete the arrangements he had already commenced for getting tenders for the removal at the cost of the Museum
