Ich bin im Juli Monat in dem Besitz Ihrer Kiste gelangt und habe die Pflanzen in gutem Zustande vorgefunden. Ich danke für die Beiträge, welche Sie für mein Herbarium beigelegt haben, besonders aber für den Vol. 1 der Flora australiensis. Ich finde in Ihrem Werke vieles Zweckmässiger als in der Flora capensis, was bei Ihrer bekannten Sachkenntniss nicht befremden darf. Ich bewundere aber hauptsächlich, dass Sie den ganzen Band in so kurzer Zeit haben vollenden können.

Mit Vergnügen werde ich für die Fortsetzung meine Sammlungen Ihnen leihen, und habe gestern pr Steamer Pollux eine Kiste mit Leguminosae, Rosaceae etc an Sie abgesandt. Die Kiste ist mit Ihrer Addresse und Royal bot Gardens, Kew, signirt. Entschuldigen Sie, dass ich nicht früher die Pflanzen sandte, wegen Veränderung in meinem Hause konnte ich nicht dazu gelangen. Wenn mir von den Leguminosae verschiedene Species von Preiss fehlen, so werden Sie in den späteren Familien, Myrtaceae, Compost etc eine grössere Vollständigkeit finden. Einen Theil der Leguminosae der ersten Sendungen von Dr Müller haben sie bereits früher erhalten.

Es ist ein Reisender hier angekommen, der in Australien gesammelt hat. Die Pflanzen von New South Wales & King George's Sound sind ohne Bedeutung, etwas besser sind die von Port Curtis, die ich zum grössten Theil gekauft habe. Am besten sind die Filices von Fidgee Islands, die aber kein besonderes Interesse für mich haben.

Ich habe zwei Packete mit Fungi für Mr Berkeley beigelegt, worüber derselbe wahrscheinlich an Sie schreiben oder in Empfang nehmen lassen wird

Most worthy Sir,

In the month of July I was in possession of your box and found the plants in good condition. I thank you for the contributions that you have included for my herbarium, but particularly for the Vol. 1 of the Flora australiensis.¹ I am finding in your work much more judicious things than in the Flora capensis,² which may not be surprising with your well-known special knowledge of the subject. However, I especially admire that you have been able to complete the whole volume in such a short time.

I will lend you my collections for the continuation with pleasure and yesterday I have sent a box to you by the steamer Pollux with Leguminosae, Rosaceae &c. The box is marked with your address and Royal bot. Gardens, Kew. I apologise that I did not send the plants earlier. On account of alterations in my house, I could not gain access to them. If I lack various species of Leguminosae of Preiss, you will find greater completeness in the later families, Myrtaceae, Compositae &c. You will have already received earlier a part of the Leguminosae of the first consignments of Dr Mueller.

A traveller has arrived here who collected in Australia.³ The plants of New South Wales and King George's Sound are without significance, somewhat better are those from Port Curtis,⁴ of which I have purchased the greatest part. The best are the ferns from the Fiji Islands which, however, have no special interest for me.

I have included two parcels with fungi for Mr Berkeley, about which he will probably write to you or will have taken receipt.
