The Reform Club
3rd Augt 1867
My dear Sir Roderick,
I called at your house today in the hope of seeing you relative to our friend Dr Muellers claim for some honorable mark of distinction at the hands of her Majesty the Queen
After I had the honor of addressing you on this subject from Melbourne1 His Excellency the Governor assented to a request made to him and sent home officially tho privately a petition from several influential people in the Colony praying that the honor of Knighthood might be conferred on Dr Mueller2 so it thus became unnecessary for me to intrude on your valuable time in the matter at that stage at least — A change having since taken place in the Colonial Office it may be necessary to move again in the matter so I beg to appeal to you who can use such powerful influence in so good a cause to do all you can to procure a well merited honor for one who has by his talents his industry and his worth conferred an honor on our Colony by becoming a permanent resident there and by adding his name to the honorable roll of naturalised Germans who have in Victoria become subjects of our beloved Queen.
I have the honor to be
my dear Sir Roderick
very truly yours
L. MacKinnon
