Report to the King

regarding the execution of the baronial diploma

for the Director of the Botanical Garden in Melbourne

Baron Ferd von Mueller

8 July 1872.

By virtue of the high decree of 6 July of last year, Your Majesty has graciously deigned to raise the Director of the Botanical Garden at Melbourne in Australia Dr Ferdinand von Mueller to the rank of hereditary baron in recognition of his services to natural science as well as to the scientific collections and institutes of Württemberg.

I have informed Baron von Mueller of this most gracious favour. Meanwhile at the same time, I have corresponded regarding the coat of arms to be granted to him in his diploma, as a result of which the Royal Herald of Arms has proposed the coat of arms depicted in the diploma most obediently attached here.

After Baron Müller has informed me of his full agreement with the proposals of the Royal Herald of Arms, I will have the baronial diploma prepared for him and take the liberty of respectfully submitting it to Your Royal Majesty with the most humble request that it be graciously executed.
