My dear Will
As Violet cannot find your "Experience" papers I send you the only one I have left.
Mr. & Mrs. Dresser called here last Monday. He said he should be seeing Sir W. Preece in a few days & will speak to him again about you. He says "— Sir W. will do anything I ask him — that is anything in reason". He also often meets Sir W. Crookes Sir C. Lodge at the "Athenaeum Club", when he [2] is in town, & will be sure to ask him about Miurhead’s[?] & you when he sees him!
The Meeting was called by the Parish Council to decide to buy or not — the piece of sloping rough ground in front of Amishes’ for £1300. — about 6 ½ acres. I spoke against it as did some others, and it was decided not, but to refer the matter back for the P.C. to find a more [3] suitable & cheaper piece.
I have finished my £20 article and am grinding away at "Spruce" again.
Hoping something will turn up for you —
Believe me | Your affectionate Pa | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
P.S. Tell your Aunt Helen that I have sent the book Catalogue — with list of prices of those marked — (some put [4] a little higher) and asked £150 one guinea each for the drawings, and £140 for the books in one lot — or if a selection, then prices will be given.
