Dear Brother

I w I write at the request of John1 & Alfred2 concerning their Legacies that it is probable to be in your power to pay them off? Or even part now soon [it] would be very useful to both, more particularly to John (as his money has been the longest due five years)[.] He can do nothing in his business without a small capital to start upon[.] according to a statement given to him by his brother there appears to be £136 due without interest & to Alfred 99 — They are anxious you must suppose to have receive their money during your life [1 word illeg. crossed out] as it is doubtful whether they could claim make any legal claim upon your Estate, to prevent anything that myte [sic] prove unpleasant to either party — you could enter into some agreement with your Sons to pay from your Estate the money due on the Legacies & also on the Note in case these should not be discharged in your life time — Life is so uncertain to all of us[.] it is but justice to my [2] children to secure to them the right of claiming what is their due. I hope you are even now doing better than last year and when you next write I trust you will be able to name the month where John may expect an Instalment on his Legacy — I have never once doubted your good intentions to fulfill all you have promised and concerned we all were that such a total reverse in affairs should have prevented your doing what you so sanguinely contemplated. [3 illeg. words crossed out]

Hoping to hear as quickly after to receipt of this [letter] as possible[.]

I remain yours truly | M A Wallace [signature]
