My dear Fanny

Things are coming to a crisis about the Yorkshire Farm. The research holder's lawyer offers to give it up or proof[sic] that Mary is the heir. But my testimony & yours will not be accepted as we are too near the interested parties: Who can prove that Mary is the daughter of Michael Webster, that her brother Michael died before her father & when, & that George left England in what year.. &c.? Can Mr. Clutson? Or do you know any one else who knew the Webster family about that time? Send me Mr. Cluston's address [2] at all events— If you do not know it send me his full name, or find it in a Directory. Please replay as soon as you can.

Will you come to us for a week after the new year & see all our improvements?

Your affectionate Brother| Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
