Parkstone, Dorset

May 1st 1893

My dear Fanny,

If you will tell me how much you owe for rent up to last quarter day. I will send you a cheque for Mr Farmer payable to him, but send me his Christian name. An I.O.U. or anything else from Thomas would be no use as he could certainly never pay it, and a landlord always has first claim on the furniture. I do not know what you mean by saying you owe £30.10 in August [2] What has August to do with it? I do not see that anything better is to be done than to keep on where you are, unless Thomas will try & get employment at some large photographers; then you could come here and live with us.

Violet went to Liverpool on Saturday & begins her school work tomorrow. Will has gone to London for a week to look out for some employment.

[3] We have had not a drop of rain here for more than six weeks & are dreadfully burnt up.

I shall be coming to London about the 16th in the examinations, & again perhaps later, & will stay with you if you do not let you room, but do not keep it for me, as I have invitations.

In haste, | your affectionate Brother | Alfred R Wallace [signature]
