My dear Fanny
I got my purse all right at Stanford’s. I also asked them about Photos of Indian’s &c. & they told me to go to Spooner’s corner of Southampton Street Strand. So just having time I went there, & the young man in the shop said they might take them on commission, so I wrote down in a book what they were, with my address & Thomas’ address, & told the shopman that if Mr Spooner wished, specimens would be brought or such for [2] him to see whether he would take them. It is a very large photographic picture shop, with views of Alps & such like things. They have some Indians in a book, taken in America, but no portraits like yours.
I enclose you cheque for £2-0-0. One pound for Will’s portraits (if that is enough) & the balance towards Thomas’ journey to Gloucestershire, [3] hoping he may come back ready to do something.
In haste, | your affectionate Brother, | Alfred R Wallace [signature]
