My dear Fanny

I am very sorry to hear of your continued illness, from your doctor Mr Parker (or Parkes). I have told him to have the advice of a specialist in tumours, & that I will be responsible for any expense & for a nurse or payment for you at a hospital, as a private patient, which I should think would be best.

I enclose £5 for current expenses & to pay for any necessaries the doctor may [2] order you. Pray therefore do not trouble yourself about cost, but have all that is necessary for your comfort.

We came home late on Saturday night & I have been very busy since with piles of letters. Violet joined us and came home with us. We enjoyed the lakes very much & found the country even more grand & beautiful than we had expected.

[3] Will is now fixed at Newcastle for two years.

I read Dumas’ "Jeanne DArc" when I was away, — but it is hardly written so well and so picturesquely as I should have expected from him. Mr Stead has been writing some beautiful articles upon her. I hope you are able to read. I enclose a copy of my last "Address" to the L.N. Society which was read in my absence; and will send you some books if you would [4] like to have them. The last few days the weather has been quite tropical in warmth. If you cannot write yourself get Thomas or Florence to write and let me know anything you would like.

With best wishes for your recovery.
