My dear Will1
The enclosed2 came a week ago, & seeing what it was, I sent it to Carter thinking he could settle it, but he says, & no doubt correctly, that you alone can do so. I presume it is for your Director’s fees — but that would be more. — Perhaps it is for your share of the Office rent?
Anyhow you must write & explain. I presume you have had the usual notice [2] and forms, & have filled them up — but why that address?
During your illness your income for average of last 3 years must have been under £.160- in which case no income tax whatever would be payable — or if under £.200 — or £250 — very little.
I told him about your being out of work, & he [3] hints you that he may want trustworthy men in Australia permanently, so if he offers anything good do not be in a hurry to decline it. He says he shall know more when his son returns — he is on his way now.
Yours affectionately | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
He says he has too many good things out there! —
