Dear Mr. Wallace,
In enclosing a check, I beg leave to add our thanks for your kindness in addressing us on Tuesday last. The Treasurer, for his vouchers, will be glad to have your receipt.
I was very much impressed by the closing sentences of your first Peabody lecture. I would not like to ask what you might hesitate [2] to grant[?] — but should esteem it a great favor if I might have a transcript of that passage[?] or be referred to any of your writings where perhaps the same idea is expressed[.]
Yours very respectfully | D.C. Gilman [signature]
