My dear Sir
Your very kind letter of the 19th just reached me this morning, and I was delighted to learn from it, that there was a good prospect of your coming out in this direction in the spring. And you do me a great honor in accpeting my invitaiton to visit me here and avail yourself of the opportunity of studying the wonderfully interesting Indian Pueblo in the vicinity. It will give me the greatest pleasure to re- [2] ceive you, and make you as much at home, as my Army quarters on the frontier will admit. There is but one Gruñian village in the United States, you know, and that is only 45 miles from this point, and is easily reached over a good ambulance road which passes through a country which I know will be full of interest to you.
The Grand Cañon [sic] of the Colorado is alas within [3] a few hours ride by railroad and it will never do for you to allow that to pass by unseen.
Trusting to hear from you when that time comes round, and that in the mean time nothing will arise to prevent your coming.
I am, dear Sir | Very Cordially yours | R.W.Schufeldt [signature]
