No further news. I think your friend is not quite right. What "Whittaker" says is— "Members take no precedence, but are authorised to place the letters O.M.1 after the G.C.B.2 and before the other Orders."

The G.C.B. is, I think, the highest of the Knighthoods open to civilians, but as precedence only applies to Court ceremonies I can find no statement of it in the Encyclo[pedia]. Just finished draft of Lecture.
