Letter (WCP1437.3845)

[1]1

Frith Hill, Godalming.

April 16th. 1885.

W. B. Hemsley, Esq.[uire]

Dear Sir

I want to have a lantern-slide painted showing the fertilisation of Marcgravia2 by birds, as described by Belt. The figure given in your interesting paper in the Gardener’s Chronicle July 3rd. 1880, would I think do to copy, if you can kindly furnish me with the colouration of the pitchers, the flowers, and the flower stalks. Or perhaps you can furnish me with a reference to some coloured [2] figure which would do to copy, but it must be one exhibiting the inflorescence in a natural position.

Trusting you may be able to furnish me with the information I require without much trouble

Believe me | Yours faithfully | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]

Written in red pen in the top right corner of the letter is ‘173’.
