Dear Sir Thiselton Dyer,

I should have written long since to thank you for the copy of your very interesting & instructive article on "Darwin" from the "Gardener’s Chronicle", but for nearly 6 weeks I have been unable to write or read, owing to severe eye-inflammation & ulceration, which required the services of a specialist. I am glad to say that I am now [2] nearly well, though I still have to be careful not to over-work my eyes.

After dealing with my accumulated correspondence, I shall I hope be able to get on with my much delayed book.

Believe me | yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
