Dear Miss Macdonald

I did not known where you were in the holidays so delayed writing till too late — & with lots of unanswered letters I have neglected till now to thank you for your kind & acceptable New Year present of the Almanack, which stands as usual on my desk. So please accept my thanks now — month so late.

The Autumn Winter & Spring [2] here, so far have been a long succession of rain, fog, & gloom with I think less Sunshine for now nearly 5 months than I ever remember before. But here we always have the weather in large slabs[?], & I fear we are going to have continued months of drought — again as we have had here the last 2 summers.

We are all pretty well I am glad to say — but Violet2 has only her one little [3] lamb of a girl to look after, which is rather disappointing.

With best wishes | Yours very sincerely | Alfred R. Wallace
