Dear Sir

I am reading with the greatest interest your delightful & fascinating "Darwinism"—having secured one of the first copies— & I beg to call your attention to "Harper’s Magazine" for the present month, in which there is an interesting article entitled "A Meadow Mud Hole" giving an account of the complete dis-placement in the Delaware Valley of the native growths by the introduced "Egyptian Lotus" w[hic]h. was only placed there some [2] 8 years ago— this being another important illustration of the "Survival of the Fittest" so ably treated by you in Chap 11 of your great book.

With sincere admiration for your work, & an earnest hope for its universal success.

I remain | Dear Sir | Yours, with the highest respect, | Frederick Simon [signature] M.I.C.E.1

Member of the Institute of Chartered Engineers.
