Letter (WCP1719.1602)

[1]

5 Westbourne Grove Terrace, W.

April 7th. 1862

Mr dear Dr. Sclater1

I had just sent off my letter to you with accounts &c.2 before I received yours with enclosures.

I wish to leave the matter of the Paradiseas3[sic] entirely in your hands, merely observing that I do not consider I have any claim upon the Society4 beyond the £150 and the actual cost of my passage home £137.3. I added the other expenses incurred because [2] I understood from Stevens5 that the Society were disposed to pay all the expenses I had incurred in bringing home the birds. Perhaps therefore you had better separate the ½ sheet containing the Acc[oun]t. & show merely the statement of expenses to be dealt with as the Society think proper.

I shall not be able to attend the meeting of the Soc[iety]. tomorrow evening being far [3] from well.

I enclose a letter of thanks to the Council.6
