Dear Mr. Geddes1

I heartily wish you success in your candidature2. I send a brief testimonial but I fear my opinion will have very little weight. I do not quite know how to head it, so have left a blank for you to fill up.

I was much interested in your article on "Variation", and thought it a very able and very fair summary of the whole subject. The latter part giving your own view, are is however full far too condensed and general [2] in treatment to allow of its producing its proper effect. But I suppose you would be hardly be justified in going into more detail in such an article.

I did not notice many misprints, but I return the two last pages, & shall be glad to have them corrected as you promise, when I suppose I may keep them.

Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
