Dear Mr Geddes,1
Yesterday I accomplished the business & the paper is referred to Wallace. The report of the former referee was read. It was very long & I should like you to know his criticisms. No one, of course, knows you are or will know, that you are aware who he is and in your presumed ignorance [2] I should think you might be informed of the criticism the critics name being withheld from you. It is no use, at this present moment, writing to poor [illeg.] about it as he is in trouble with respect to his Father whose death is hourly expected.
Thanks for the information sent in your last. I shall be glad for your [illeg.] you are back at your scientific work & I regret (as I then intimated) for the your sake alone, that you have [illeg.] in for this [3] chair unless you think you have a really good chance of getting it. Hoping to see you soon here I am
Vy truly yours | G J Mivart2 [signature]
I will return the proof today.
