Leroy, Charles George (1723-1789). French naturalist and man of letters.
ARW probably refers to the 1870 English translation of Leroy's Lettres philosophiques sur l'intelligence et la perfectibilité des animaux, avec quelques letters sur l'homme, originally published in 1764.
